Joaquín Capa is a Spanish painter born in Santander (Spain) in 1941.

He studied at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes in Madrid as well as studying Philosophy in Rome and Madrid, and Architecture in Madrid and Sociology of Art in Paris.

In his career he was awarded a scholarship by the Juan March Foundation between 1975 and 1976 and by the Ministry of Culture between 1983 and 1984.

He maintains a close relationship with India where he has been a visiting professor at the University of Baroda in 1983, 1989 and 1990 and where he won the Prize of the I International Biennial of Bhopal.

His work can be found in museums and collections such as the Museum of Abstract Art of Cuenca, the Reina Sofía Art Center of Madrid, the Railway Museum of Madrid, Municipal Museum of Fine Arts of Santander, Faro Art Center of Cabo Mayor, Museum of Modern Art of New York, Los Angeles, County Museum of Art and the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum of Lisbon.
