About the work

Jules Georges Redon was a figural artist known for his humorous portrayals of children and animals.  He also produced numerous posters, many of which remain treasured parts of French history.  He did a great deal of work for the cabarets and restaurants in his Montmartre neighborhood, including humorous covers for menus.

The text in the upper margin reads “une minute d’angoisse” [“A Moment of Anguish”].
