Barry Moser

American

1940

The illustrator, artist, and publisher Barry Moser was hired in 1967 to teach at The Williston Academy in Easthampton, Massachusetts.  He met and became friends with Louis Smith, a glazer, framer, and print collector.  Smith then introduced Moser to the artist Leonard Baskin.  Moser’s experience of walking into Baskin’s Gehenna Press was a formative experience for Moser, and he convinced his employer that the school needed a printing press.  Moser’s Pennyroyal Press was founded.  Like Baskin, Moser was a celebrated working artist while still operating his award-winning press.
