The magazine XXe Siecle [2oth Century Review] was the creation of the Italian art historian Gualtieri di San Lazzaro [Walter of St Lazarus]. These magazines, sporadically produced from 1938 until , each focused on a particular region or artist and was filled with articles by leading writers and would contain lithographic prints by the artist of the issue. This publication was driven by Gaultieri’s passionate belief in the importance of letting art be seen and owned by people outside of Paris, New York, and London.
This woodcut print comes, of course, from XXe Siecle, beautifully framed in conservation materials to reduce the likelihood of a fading of the beautiful green paint thickly placed on the paper.
