About the work
Martin Ries was a painter, printmaker, art historian, and critic; his intellectual approach to art led him to experiment with color and form. Among his experiments were the layering of inks and images, collage-like, to create a dynamic and interesting work. This work, with six inks, features a laughing woman image which Ries frequently used. Magnificent in color, interest, and scale.
