About the work

A work by Axel Herman Haig, a founder of the Royal Academy of Painters-Etchers and Engravers, at the height of his powers.  Haig was particularly skilled at balancing the architecture—he worked as an architect before turning to engraving—with romance and drama.  This work shows extraordinary deftness of hand with angle and light.

An impression of this etching is held by the Art Institute of Chicago bearing the alternate title, “Choir Screen, South Aisle, Amiens”.

This is an exceptional work by an artist who is among the most accomplished of the Eighteenth Century European engravers.
