This portrait of the prophet Isaiah is special in four respects. First, Jacob Landau reached maturity in his work only in the early 1950s, so this work, created in 1956, is a rare early example of his mature work. Second, it is an Artist’s Proof preceding a very limited edition of ten copies, making this a rare find. Third, it has been widely reproduced, including its 1957 presentation in the leading art magazine “Art in America”. Finally, it comes from the personal collection of the celebrated portrait artist William Arthur Smith, gifted to him by the Artist. This work was created as the album cover design for ISAIAH THE PROPHET by Alexander Tansman; Paul Van Kempen conducting The Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, Epic Records. Custom framed in a solid Walnut frame behind 99% UV-blocking art glass using strictly conservation-grade materials.
