This may be the most famous of Steinlen’s works: An advertisement for the pasteurized milk made by the Quillot Brothers in France’s Vingeanne area. Steinlen etched the lithographic stone in 1894 and printing was in 1894 or 1895. It was made the same year that Louis Pasteur’s sterilization technique was produced commercially. Steinlen’s daughter, Colette, and the family’s cats modeled for this picture.
Printed by Charles Verneau, 114 Rue Oberkampf, Paris.
A beautiful and well-preserved example of this iconic print.
