About the work

Cheryl Lichwell was motivated to make this sculpture by a woman she knew. The woman was deeply introverted. Despite her lack of intercourse with others, this woman told Lichwell always that she was never lonely. She reminded Lichwell of someone who lives only in their head. Thus, Lichwell made this work by highlighting the head with a nest.

Fortunately, this woman’s deep introversion was only a temporary condition; she became more open as she interacted with more people. She remained happy being quiet, and she still felt at home in her own head, but she found that she could also be at home in dialogue with other people.
