About the work

Carroll Sockwell, a Washington native, lived his entire life in Washington except for 1959, which he spent in New York City. This work, then, is one of few works extant from Sockwell’s New York sojourn. This work speaks to the iconographic works of Franz Kline but reflecting Sockwell’s facility with oil pastel, texture, and color.

Condition:

Very good condition consistent with age. Moderate brittleness of paper and consequential chipping to corners.
