An exemplar of the collages which typified the artist’s early 1980s work.
This is a rare work to come to market by one of the most celebrated Black artists of the late Twentieth Century. Sockwell was very active in the late 1960s movement to force museums to hire more Black professional staff. He showed regularly with luminaries such as Sam Gilliam, Kenneth Victor Young, and Howard Mehring.
Professionally framed in a walnut shadow box using strictly conservation-grade materials behind 99% UV-filtering conservation glass.
