About the work
French artist Max Papart was famous for cubist depiction of fun and happy subjects, like circuses, birds, ballet, people. But his images are far more than meets the eye at first glance. They captivate and demand examination—particularly his emphatically cubist works filled with high contrast and textured surfaces that are often paired with strong composition and color.
This work is generally found titled Personnage au Chian, but it is also seen titled Man in Yellow and Spotted Dog in the Green.
