About the work

John Gernand was an important and accomplished Washington artist curator, but it is a rare treat to find any of his work available for sale.  He was most actively working as a painter in the 1930s and 1940s; by the late part of the mid-Century he had moved to, and become a master in, print-making.

The photos show the fine quality of his engraving, his superior control in his cuts into the plate, and most importantly his ability to create expressiveness in a work of abstraction.

This artist’s proof is rare and splendid.
