About the work
Ibels created this lithograph for use as a theater program for “A Bas le Progrès” by Edmond de Goncourt, a satirical work written and first presented in 1893. It was no mistake that Ibels was drafted to prepare this cover; he was a passionate theater lover and passionate in his attacks on bourgeois values.
