About the work

Clare Turlay Newberry wrote and illustrated seventeen children’s books—all but three of which were about cats, and nearly all taken from real life. Four of her books were honored with the Caldecott award. This print, published in 1943 by Harper & Brothers, is a fine reproduction of Newberry’s 1942 conte crayon drawing illustrating her Caldecott-winning book, “Marshmallow”. It is a formal portrait of a not-formal animal; it is adorable and beautifully executed at the same time. This work is unframed but conservation-grade framing is available at discounted cost and with minimal delay. Please inquire.
